Ask The Photographer

Couples will usually ask a few questions about me, my wedding photography style, documentary or candid or natural, what's included in the packages etc...so I've found a list of questions that I thought I would answer to help you get a better idea of who I am, what I do and hopefully make you chose me to be your wedding photographer!

Wedding Photography in Scotland Q&A

The Basics

How long have you been working as a wedding photographer ?

I’ve been a wedding photographer for about 3 years now both as primary photographer but have also assisted in over 75 weddings around Scotland as a second shooter. This experience has helped me to understand that every wedding is different, and that there’s far more to the wedding photographers job than just taking photographs!

Can I see your portfolio? Are the images all yours? How recent are they?

I have a portfolio on my website showing a selection of recent images from wedding venues in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy etc, and I can supply links to full weddings if you would like to see a complete album.

Will I be able to give you a list of specific shots we would like?

Yes - during our pre wedding meeting we would discuss your ideas and then talk about how we can capture the shots that you would like from the wedding day.

One of the best things about living and working in Scotland is the opportunity to photograph weddings in some of the most beautiful locations in the world.

From the amazing castles, the quirky streets of Edinburgh and the beaches of our coasts, Scotland offers so much for wedding couples and photographers alike to create some fantastic memories.

Do you offer engagement shoots as part of the package?

Engagement shoots are available on demand.

Have you worked at our wedding venue before? If not, will you visit beforehand?

I always try to visit the venue beforehand. We would maybe arrange a pre wedding meeting at the venue to allow us to become familiar with the surroundings before the big day.

How would you describe your photography style?

Relaxed, Natural, Creative

This is how I would describe my work. Documentary style photography with added wow factor.

I like to keep out of the way, let the scene unfold and shoot when required.

However, as well as the documentary style wedding photographs, I like to create images using multiple lighting set ups to create fantastic images from your day.

Have you photographed a wedding of a similar size to ours before?

I have covered weddings with just two people up to the more traditional sixty day guests.

What information do you need from us before the wedding?

Wedding date, location of bridal and/or groom prep, ceremony location, reception location, amount of guests and any other specific photographic requirements.

If you would like a selection of more formal shots taking, I would need a list detailing the guests required for each shot.

On the Day

What time will you arrive at the venue?

If we are shooting the wedding from ceremony onwards, we would arrive about one hour before the ceremony starts.

Do we need to provide you with food?

It is not expected, but it is much appreciated. (Bar snacks, sandwiches etc are perfect.)

Will you be the primary photographer on the day?

Yes. I am the primary photographer and will be the point of reference for any communication either before or on the day itself. I work with an assistant who’s job is to capture supplementary images of the day and also assist with lighting etc during the day.

What time will you stay until?

I usually stay for the first few dances.

Can we pay an extra fee if we require you to stay longer?

Yes. We can arrange for an extension to the day if required.

What is your backup plan if you can’t attend on the day?

I have a network of fellow wedding photographers that are available to assist if I am unable to attend.

Do you have backup equipment?

Yes. I have duplicate cameras, flash guns, SD cards etc

Packages and Payment

What wedding packages do you offer?

I offer three packages.

Package One covers the day from just before the ceremony until the first few dances.

Package Two covers the day from bridal preparations through to the first few dances.

Package Three is the same as Package Two, but includes a custom designed luxury album and box and Presentation USB

****All packages will receive FREE OF CHARGE****

12"x12" 28 page Photo Book

Online gallery

Images on USB

Will we receive digital copies of all images? Is there an extra fee?

Digital images will be supplied via an online gallery to view and download.

Images from the day will also be supplied on USB. There is no extra fee for the online gallery or the USB.

I do not supply every single photograph taken during the day.

I own the copyright to all images. I request no further manipulation of supplied images.

Do you offer a printing and/or album service?

Yes - I use a company that supplies amazing quality albums, books and prints at amazing prices.

Is retouching included in the price?

Yes. Where required I will retouch images to make them look their best.

Can we create a bespoke package?

Yes. I can create a package that suits your requirements.

How long will the pictures take to arrive?

I aim to complete the images between 4-6 weeks after the wedding.

I will supply a sneak peek within a couple of days.

When will we need to make the final payment?

Final payment is required one month before the ceremony date.

I hope the above will answer some of the questions you have regarding my wedding photography. If you do have any further questions, please feel free to get in touch and I'll happily answer any queries you may have.
